Help me build a computer for 1k budget?

I'm looking to spend approximately 1k on building a computer. Not including keyboard/mouse/monitor. I am not into any extreme gaming. It would mainly be used to watch HD movies, play moderately intensive games, store music videos etc... I would like to eventually hook up two 27" monitors to it as well. I've read good things about the intel i7 2600(k). I'm not sure if the way to start a build is with that or the motherboard? I'm rather new to this arena but I refuse to pay companies like Dell when I consider myself a fairly intelligent person. Plus it seems fun. So enough rambling. Please throw some suggestions out my way if you are feeling so inclined on helping a newby here. I'm not sure where to even begin. Not necessarily aimed at only gaming, or only data storage, etc... Just your personal suggestions to build from scratch a well rounded computer to fill a 1k price tag. Thanks for your help!
